Tanking

What Is Tanking?

Tanking in damp proofing is a specialized technique used to prevent water ingress, particularly in basements, cellars, and other below-ground structures. It involves the application of a waterproof barrier (usually a cement-based slurry or membrane) to the internal surfaces of walls and floors to create a sealed, watertight environment. The goal of tanking is to stop water from entering the building, especially in areas where rising damp or penetrating damp are concerns.

Benefits of Tanking:

1. Complete Waterproofing

Tanking creates a fully sealed environment, preventing water ingress from any direction, especially in below-ground spaces.

2. Protects Structural Integrity

By preventing moisture from entering the building, tanking helps protect the foundations, walls, and floors from rot, mold, and decay.

3. Improves Indoor Air Quality

By stopping dampness, tanking also prevents mold and mildew growth, improving the air quality and health of the building’s occupants.
